YFC France has recently gone through a healthy leadership transition process and a new ND was appointed. Hands across the seas. What a beautiful image! It talks to me; in my mind I imagine all the seas that separate us, my ‘far away sisters’ in Jesus. How are you today? How does the Lord manifest His life, His power in your life? Are you surfing on the waves of faith and happily reaching some important targets? If so, may the Lord fill you with joy! Or maybe you have been facing tsunamis? May He bring you to the calm waters of His resourcing peace!

Hands across the seas. Seas are between us. Geographic seas, cultural seas. . .It’s interesting to read testimonies from overseas that remind us what others live but also what we have in common. Sometimes, what is published on facebook, is seen by many and liked by few. That’s the way it is with our lives! People see and hear us but not many adhere to what we express or proclaim. Well, what others like is not our business; they are free as we are free! It is not our objective to be liked by many, but to be liked and approved by the One – Jesus!

And what does Jesus approve? He approves us when we come to the cross to receive forgiveness and move on! He approves us being disciplined. He approves when we proclaim the power of His resurrection and by our words and attitudes we spread life in our families, ministries and everywhere! It is all so simple but some windy days so difficult. But we find our strength in Him who “humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8 Wherever we live and whatever we face, we have the same eternal hands – God’s hands – around us.

And our hands? What can we do ? In Jesus, we can. . .put our hands together. . .do what our hands find to do. . .use our fingers to send a word of encouragement. . .hand a cross of hope to someone today.

‘Hands across the seas’, quelle belle image ces mains tendues à travers les mers! Elle me parle; dans mon esprit j’imagine toutes les mers qui nous séparent, mes sœurs en Jésus si lointaines. Comment tu vas aujourd’hui? Comment Dieu manifeste sa vie, sa puissance dans la tienne aujourd’hui? Es-tu, en quelque sorte et toute heureuse, en train de ‘surfer sur des vagues de la foi’ et atteindre des objectifs importants? Si c’est le cas, que le Seigneur te remplisse de joie! Ou peut-être tu as dû faire face à pas mal de tsunamis ces derniers temps. Que le Seigneur t’amène à des eaux calmes de Sa paix qui te ressourcent.

Mains au-dessus ou à travers des mers. Il y a des mers qui nous séparent. Des mers géographiques, culturelles. C’est intéressant de lire des témoignages d’outre-mer qui nous rappellent ce que d’autres vivent mais aussi ce que nous avons en commun avec elles. Parfois, ce qui a été publié sur facebook, est vu par beaucoup et liké par peu. C’est comme ça dans nos vies! Les gens nous voient, nous entendent mais n’adhèrent pas forcément ce que exprimons ou proclamons. Bon, ce que les autres aiment n’est pas notre affaire, ils sont libres comme nous le sommes aussi. Notre objectif n’est pas d’être likés par plein de monde mais d’être liké et approuvé par Un Seul, Jésus!

Mais qu’approuve-t-Il Jésus? Il nous approuve quand nous venons à la croix pour recevoir le pardon et continuer à avancer! Il approuve que nous soyons disciplinés. Jésus approuve que nous proclamions la puissance de Sa résurrection et que par nos mots, nos attitudes nous répandons Sa vie dans nos familles, ministères, partout. C’est tellement simple mais les jours où il y a du vent. . .tellement difficile. Mais nous trouvons notre force en Celui qui “s’est humilié lui-même en faisant preuve d’obéissance jusqu’à la mort, même la mort sur la croix.” Philippiens 2 :8 Où que nous soyons, quelque soit ce à quoi nous devons faire face, nous avons les mêmes bras éternels, les mains de Dieu, autour de nous.

Et nos mains à nous? Que pouvons nous faire? En Jésus, nous pouvons! Mettre nos mains en prière. . .faire ce que nos mains trouvent à faire. . .utiliser nos doigts pour envoyer un mot qui encourage. . .tendre de l’espoir à quelqu’un aujourd’hui, cet espoir qui vient de la croix.

HATS February Blog 2016 – in English, Spanish & German!

My name is Johanna Ralsten-Cox, and I am the Ministries Director at Greater Miami Youth for Christ in YFC/USA (Florida). Prior to taking this role, I was a CityLife Program Director for 5 years. I am married to a poet and teacher named Justin. We live in an apartment with our cat and like to sing, read, and laugh. I also am trying to learn Spanish – I studied German for 8 years. I wish God had told me Spanish would have been more useful! 🙂

During the middle of YFC Institute, amid learning ministry with friends and family, I found out that something terrible happened to a friend. This friend caused the problem, and now he’s in jail. This friend was in ministry; he worked with kids. He was homegrown. He was mentored by many wonderful men. And now…This. His own sin overtook his life and has possibly ruined life for others.

So many times in ministry, we have these major setbacks that make me want to pull my hair out. Nothing’s guaranteed. I poured into a kid for year, only to realize she saw me a little more than a stepping stone in her life. I work my butt off to create a safe and loving space at our events, and then a student leader breaks into a fist fight during an outreach event. Three steps forward, a mile back. Why do I keep doing this?

In the middle of this pain, during a break-out session, my leader pulled out a translation of 1 Corinthians 13 I had never seen before. We were talking about loving relationships with staff, and we looked over the familiar “love is patient, love is kind…” But the end of the famous “Love is…” passage said this:

“Love is never wasted.”

The love my friend was shown – the love of his mentors, the love we gave him, the love others give him now – is not a waste.

And this is why I keep doing this: not because I love, but because God loved first (1 John 4:19). And He loved some very unpromising, unpredictable, unloveable souls. But his love was not a stupid, crazy love. He knew. He IS love.

He’s love. And love never fails; it is never wasted; it is always enough. That’s why we love and go back to the mattresses every day – in the pain, the hate, and the hardship…the major setbacks. We continue because the love from God is never wasted.

Mi nombre es Johanna Ralsten-Cox y soy la Directora de Ministerios de JPC/EUA en la Gran Miami (Florida). Antes de asumir este cargo, fuí Directora de Programa de la Vida de Ciudad durante 5 años. Estoy casada con un poeta y maestro llamado Justin. Vivimos en un apartamento con nuestro gato y nos gusta cantar, leer y reir. También estoy tratando de aprender español. Estudié alemán por 8 años. Desearía que Dios me hubiera indicado que el español me hubiera sido más útil. 🙂

Durante mi estancia en el Instituto JPC, en medio del aprendizaje del ministerio con amigos y familiares, me enteré de que algo terrible le había sucedido a un amigo. Este amigo había causado un problema, y ahora estaba en la cárcel. Este amigo estaba en el ministerio; trabajaba con niños. Él era de la comunidad. Había sido apadrinado por muchos hombres maravillosos. Y ahora … Esto. Su propio pecado superó su vida y, posiblemente, arruinó la vida de otros.

Son tantas las veces que tenemos estos enormes contratiempos en el ministerio, que siento a veces el deseo de tirar de mis cabellos. Nada está garantizado. Me dediqué durante un año a una niña, sólo para darme cuenta de que ella me vió como un poco más que un trampolín en su vida. Me rompo el lomo para crear un espacio seguro y amoroso en nuestros eventos y llega un líder estudiantil y se involucra en una pelea a golpes durante un evento de evangelización. Tres pasos hacia adelante, una milla hacia atrás. ¿Por qué sigo haciendo esto?

En medio de este dolor, durante una sesión de “break-out”, mi líder nos mostró una traducción del versículo 1 Coríntios 13 que nunca antes había visto. Estábamos hablando del amor y las relaciones hacia el personal, examinando el párrafo tan familiar “el amor es paciente, el amor es bondadoso…” Y al final del famoso “El amor es…” el párrafo decía:

“El amor jamás se extingue.”

El amor que se le mostró a mi amigo – el amor de sus mentores, el amor que le dimos, el amor que otros le dan ahora – no es un desperdicio.

Y es por eso que sigo haciendo esto: no porque yo amo, sino porque Dios amó primero (1 Juan 4:19). Y Él amó a algunas almas muy poco prometedoras, impredecibles, antipáticas. Pero Su amor no era un amor estúpido, loco. Él sabía. Él ES Amor.

Él es Amor. Y el amor nunca falla; nunca se desperdicia; es siempre suficiente. Es por eso que amamos y volvemos a la lucha cada día – al dolor, al odio y a la penuria… los más grandes contratiempos. Continuamos, porque el amor de Dios nunca se extingue.

Mein Name ist Johanna Ralsten-Cox und bin der Ministerien Direktor in der Grand Miami für JFC/USA (Florida). Bevor ich diese Tätigkeit übernahm, war ich fünf Jahre Direktor des Stadtlebenprogram. Ich bin mit Justin, einem Poet und Lehrer verheiratet. Wir leben in einem Apartment mit unserer Katze und lieben es zu Singen, Lesen und Lachen. Ich versuche auch Spanisch zu lernen.Ich habe 8 Jahre Deutsch studiert. Ich wünschte, Gott hätte mir gesagt, dass Spanisch nützlicher gewesen wäre. 🙂

Während meiner Zeit im JFC-Institut und inmitten des Ministeriums lernend mit Freunden und Familie, erfuhr ich, dass einem Freund etwas Schreckliches passiert war. Dieser Freund hatte ein Problem verursacht, und jetzt sitzt er im Gefängnis. Dieser Freund war im Ministerium; er arbeitete mit Kindern. Er war einheimisch. Er wurde von vielen wunderbaren Menschen betreut. Und jetzt … Das. Seine eigene Sünde hat sein Leben eingeholt und möglicherweise das Leben anderer ruiniert.

Schon so oft im Ministerium haben wir diese Rückschläge, weswegen ich mir am liebsten die Haare raufen würde. Nichts ist garantiert. Ich habe mich ein Jahr einem Kind gewidmet, nur um festzustellen, dass sie in mir nur etwas mehr als ein Sprungbrett in ihrem Leben sah. Ich reisse mir den Hintern auf um für unsere Veranstaltungen eine sichere und liebevolle Umgebung zu schaffen, und dann kommt ein Studentenführer und löst während ein Evangelistionsereignis einen Faustkampf aus. Drei Schritte nach vorn, eine Meile zurück. Warum mache ich trotzdem weiter?

Inmitten dieses Schmerzes, während einer break-out Sitzung, zeigte uns mein Leader, eine Übersetzung des Verses 1 Korintius 13, die ich davor noch nie gesehen hatte. Wir sprachen über liebevolle Beziehungen zu den Mitarbeitern, und über das wohlbekannte „Wer liebt, ist geduldig, wer liebt, ist gütig…“ Und am Ende der berühmten Passage „Liebe ist…“ stand dies:

„Niemals wird die Liebe vergehen.“

Die Liebe, die meinem Freund gezeigt wurde – die Liebe seiner Mentoren, die Liebe, die wir ihm gaben, die Liebe, die ihm andere jetzt geben – wird nie verloren gehen.

Und deswegen mache ich weiter: nicht weil ich liebe, sondern, weil Gott zuerst geliebt hat (1 Johannes 4:19) Und Er liebte manche aussichtslose, unberechenbare, nicht liebenswerte Seelen. Aber Seine Liebe war keine dumme, verrückte Liebe. Er wusste, Er IST Liebe.

Er ist Liebe. Und Liebe versagt nie; ist nie eine Verschwendung; sie ist immer genug. Deswegen lieben wir, und gehen jeden Tag zurück in den Kampf – in den Schmerz, in den Hass und in die Not… den grössten Rückschlägen. Wir machen weiter, weil Gottes Liebe nie vergehen wird.
